Chlamydia Testing

Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted disease that can be cured.  The infection can damage a woman's reproductive organs, and may lead to infertility.  The infection is often called "silent" because half of chlamydia cases in men, and three quarters of cases in women, show no symptoms. 

Chlamydia can be transmitted through oral, anal or vaginal sex.  It can also be passed on to a baby from the mother during childbirth.

For men, the main area of infection for chlamydia is the urethra, which is the tube in your penis that carries urine and sperm.  Male symptoms may include:

• Burning pain when you urinate

• Discharge from the opening of your penis

• Testicle pain

• Pain or discharge from your rectum

For women, the main area of infection is the cervix, which is the opening that connects the vagina to the womb.  Female symptoms may include:

• Vaginal discharge

• Vaginal irritation

• Pain during sex

• Pain or discharge from your rectum

• Lower abdominal pain

• Severe pain in your pelvis
