Digoxin Testing
Digoxin is used to treatment heart conditions, such as atrial
fibrillation and heart flutters. Digoxin is often
prescribed under the names Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps, and Digitek.
Blood is tested to check the concentration of digoxin in your
blood. The test is usually done when you first start the
medication, to make sure that you are taking the correct dosage.
After the dosage level is determined, your doctor will routinely
test your digoxin levels.
The test is also ordered when
digoxin levels appear too low in someone who is taking heart
medication, or suffering from heart failure. When the
levels are too great and become toxic, the blood test may also
be done. Symptoms of digoxin toxicity include:
-
Irregular heartbeat
-
Trouble breathing
-
Feeling dizzy
-
Vomiting
-
Blurred Vision
