Dilantin (Phenytoin)
Testing
Phenytoin is a common anticonvulsant prescribed to treat
seizures and status epilepticus.
This test is used to measure
the amount of phenytoin in the blood. The test is often
done when a patient first starts the medication, to make sure
tha the right dosage is prescribed. The test is also
given when a patient doesn't seem to respond to the medication,
and continues to have seizures.
Dilantin / Phenytoin can also
cause serious toxicity. Common symptoms of Dilantin toxicity may
