Fasting Glucose
Testing
This test is used to measure the amount of glucose in your blood
at the time that the sample is taken. The test is used to
detect hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, to diagnose diabetes, and
to monitor the glucose levels of diabetics.
The test is typically done
after you have fasted (haven't eaten) for 8-10 hours. Your
doctor may recommend the test if you have a family history of
diabetes, if you're overweight, or if you're older than 40.
