Partial Thromboplastin
Time - PTT Testing
The PTT test is often done when someone has unexplained bleeding
or clotting. It's sometimes recommended as means of
detecting Lupus anticoagulant, in the case of frequent
miscarriages. It is also used to monitor patients taking
Heparin, which is used to treat blood clotting.
A PTT may be done if you
suffer from bleeding disorders (nosebleeds,
bruising, heavy menstruation, bleeding gums, or blood in your
stool and urine). In some cases, the PTT is recommended by
a doctor when surgery is going to be performed, to make sure
that your blood will clot properly during the procedure.
