RPR Testing
This test is used to screen for and diagnose infection with
Treponema pallidum, which causes syphilis. The test is
often performed on pregnant women, newborn babies, and couples
applying for marriage as part of their state's marriage laws.
The test may also be ordered
if:
-
You show symptoms, such as
sores on the genitals or throat
-
You are being treated for
another sexually transmitted disease (STD)
-
You are pregnant
It's recommended that people
infected with syphilis have follow-up blood tests done at three,
six, twelve and twenty-four months to make sure that your
infection is gone after treatment.
