Uric Acid Testing
When your body breaks down substances called purines, uric acid
is created. Purines can be found in certain foods such as
liver, mackerel, dried beans, anchovies, and peas. High-purine
drinks include beer and wine.
If your body produces too
much uric acid, not all of it is passed out of your kidneys
through your urine. When your body has too much uric acid,
illness may result. One common result of too much uric
acid is a painful joint condition known as gout. It
may also cause crystals or kidney stones that can cause damage
to your kidneys.
